Troubleshooting Ad Hoc Builds

Unfortunately there are many things that can go wrong installing an Ad Hoc build and many users experience difficulties and errors installing them.

Please make all the following checks to ensure a smooth installation process:

  • You must have the latest version of iTunes.  On the Mac you can confirm this by clicking Apple > Software Update.  If iTunes doesn’t appear on the list you have the latest version.
  • You must have the latest version of iOS on your phone.  You can test by connecting your phone to iTunes, select your phone under Devices in the left hand column, then click “check for update” under the iPhone image.
  • You must remove any old provisioning profiles from your phone.  These can be found in the Settings app under General > Profiles.  Click the name of the profile that corresponds to your build (usually the customer’s company name) and then click delete
  • Install the latest provisioning profile along with the app build provided to you.  This is where most of the problems occur.  Seagull Systems labels their provisioning profiles with version numbers so check with your project manager to ensure you have the latest profile.  Then install it in the usual way, ie, dragging and dropping it on to iTunes and hitting Sync.
